  1. There are more stories to be had: OE had a budget of $175,000 to make use of an online collaboration system to allow regular employees to contribute and vote upon "operating principles". Many of the top vote-getting suggestions were more in the form of complaints about what is wrong with upper level management at UC, not what they were looking for, so they "broke" (most likely by intention) the voting system after a quick vote down of the most forthright statement of dissatisfaction so it wouldn't win, and then they came up with the same set of vague and inane ideas that they had seeded the system with in the first place.

  4. if you can post it to google docs (see: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/06/google-docs-to-add-support-for-pdfs.html), scrib'd etc., or convert it to a link, or even create your own blogspot and just post it there, and send us the link - we will crosspost it here. we don't open unknown attachments via email. so if you can figure out a work around, once again, we would like to read it and are sure others would like to read it too. There are many who **DO** want to hear the suggestions of others- even if certain folks don't want to hear them, or want to suppress them.

  6. well, that is a statement in itself - about other problems at UC and in particular at Cal.

    It is always strange to recall how Birgeneau started out wanting to regale staff with stories of his days as an activist in the '60's-- and yet...
