"Although hunger is something I now experience only in memory, data from the UC Nutrition  Policy Institute demonstrates that food insecurity is a present reality for nearly half of all UC  students. Many students also have unstable, unaffordable and unsafe living conditions. A  healthy diet and a safe, affordable place to sleep are not the only privileges that motivate me to  address the circumstances of my fellow students. "
