J. Sures (Appointed )

This regent vacancy may be the result of regent Pattiz leaving the board before his term expired

This is now an appointed but still unconfirmed position:
An entertainment news site was first with the news

UTA Co-President Jay Sures Appointed to UC Board of Regents

Then SF Gate :

Yahoo News:

"Jonathan J. “Jay” Sures, co-president of United Talent Agency, has been appointed to the University of California board of regents.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced the appointment alongside several others Friday night in one of his final acts as California’s head of state — his successor, Gavin Newsom, will be sworn in Monday. Sures, a Democrat, will require state senate confirmation before the appointment to the unpaid position is finalized.
Sures has served as co-president of UTA since 2017, and before that served as a managing director at the talent representation powerhouse for nearly 30 years.

From 2005 to 2006, Sures served as an assistant visiting professor at the UCLA School of Theatre, Film, and Television, and is currently vice chair of the school’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Board of Directors. He is also treasurer of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, and vice president of the UTA Charitable Foundation.

Sures’ clients at UTA have included Steve Levitan, Chuck Lorre, Darren Star, Bruce Helford, Larry Wilmore, Judd Apatow, DeAnn Heline & Eileen Heisler, Chuck Todd, Norah O’Donnell, Jake Tapper, Don Lemon, Ginger Zee, Kate Snow, Dan Harris, Elizabeth Vargas, Bill Weir, Dr. Phil McGraw, Dan Abrams, Paula Faris and Jim Acosta."

And then SF Chronicle with:
..."In July, a study by the nonprofit Campaign for College Opportunity found that the composition of governor-appointed regents was disproportionately white and male, even though the students attending UC campuses were far more diverse.
The study, called “Left Out,” also looked at diversity on the governing board of the California State University system and the state Community College Board of Governors and found a similar lack of nonwhite appointees. But those panels had more gender diversity than the UC regents.
With the addition of Sures, who is white, the 18 governor-appointed regents  include eight white men and three white women. Four Latinos and two African Americans (evenly divided between men and women), and one Asian American woman also serve as regents." See: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Governor-appoints-new-member-of-UC-Board-of-13510885.php
On that topic see also:

..."The Hollywood Reporter first reportedWednesday evening that Kelly was leaving CAA, the agency that has represented her since 2015. The Daily Beast learned that Kelly was in talks with rival United Talent Agency, and as recently as Wednesday evening, sources close to her expected her to sign with the agency. A source with knowledge of the situation said that Jay Sures, the head of UTA, contacted CAA on Wednesday “to alert them that Megyn Kelly was leaving CAA due to CAA’s conflicts of interest with NBC News.”"...

..." replace CAA, UTA co-president Jay Sures had been in talks to sign Kelly and had been courting her before Tuesday's comments "...
Compared with this coverage of the history:
"Megyn Kelly had a history of racist claims long before blackface & NBC
USA Today"

--Sures thought that was appropriate talent for him to court up until that Tuesday?!

- So, he replaces Pattiz on the board and Sures term thus ends in 2026 because Pattiz slot was appointed in 2014??
- The Gov opted not to appoint himself (as a new resident from the local when on his ranch-- rather than an Oakland former mayor, no longer Oakland resident etc etc)

-The gov opted not to name someone from the inland, Central valley??

- -The gov opted for another southern CA based regent, so now only one third of the full term appointed UC Regents are from northern California ( is Tauscher still even really CA based ?)??

The pieces above mention the confirmation process, but that has devolved into a sad joke of a process, see:
